Saturday, April 16 at Columbiana Centre Mall there was a shooting. 15 people were injured, nine shot, others sustained injuries while trying to escape gunfire, and three people were detained following the shooting. So far there has not been anyone reported dead.

Two people suffered non-gunshot-related injuries; the injuries were sustained in what was described as a “stampede” after the incident. The three people that have been detained are said to have known each other somehow and gunfire soon erupted. They don’t know if the three detained were the only ones shooting.

As of yesterday two men were charged, one wanted for attempted murder. Jewayne Price and Marquise Robinson have been charged, however Amari Smith is still on the run.

WYFF states that Jewayne Price had acted out of self-defense and was threatened just moments before the shooting occurred. Rutherford (Price’s attorney) said there were threats towards Price on Facebook. He says Price called his family moments before the shooting, telling them he had been spotted by the other people in the mall.

Price has still been charged with attempted murder and nine counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature along with Marquise Robison. Each of the assault charges carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, while the attempted murder charge has a maximum penalty of 30 years. Amari Smith will follow the same charges upon his arrest. US Marshals are now offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to Smith’s arrest. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Victims of the shooting stated, “This event has traumatized me and everyone in the storage room of the store that I was hiding in that day. I will never fully feel safe in a crowded public space again, I will fear for my family and friends’ safety constantly, I will flinch at heavy rain or hail on a roof, sudden yelling, loud popping sounds and a list of things I will keep discovering as I go through my life and deal with what happened.”
