Big Businesses Benefits

Mental health, more specify depression, has took a steep inclined since 2020. Reports saying there’s a 32.8 percent rise is depression cases in October of 2021. This can and will be attributed to Corona Virus that hit the world hard. The isolation it caused was crippling to many people. They could no longer resume their normal life.

Mental health was not the only concern during this pandemic. However, many people over looked who was actually benefiting from this deadly pandemic. And just has they always have; big businesses have found great success off of abusing the working class. The Washington Post has found that 45 out of 50 business have turned a profit since March of 2020. March of 2020 is when Corona started and people were suffering the most with finding jobs, housing, and even shopping for toilet paper. These big businesses like Nike or PayPal still have let workers go even with their increasing success. This is due to the greed of big businesses, the more people you have working is just more people they have to pay.

Letting go of workers is causing many to file for unemployment. May of 2020 was a peak for cases of unemployment. The Bureau of Labor Statics found that 14.7 percent of Americans were jobless for this time.
Unemployment is not what people want, especially in a pandemic. This pandemic has caused people to struggle finding jobs due to many organizations laying off employees. Also, in person interviews have been changed to virtual interviews. So if people do not have internet access, they can not get a job.
And many jobs that relied on in person connections, like the service industry, have suffered the most. Restaurant have let people go due to budget cuts, and usually over-work the few staff they kept. For example, Microsoft found that more than 40 percent of workers are considering leaving their jobs. Not only are business letting people go, but the ones who do stay are severely over worked to the point of quitting their jobs.

And another fact that makes it worse is that small businesses make up of 19.8 percent of federal taxes (www.nationwide.com). As The Washington Post states “Fifty-five of the nation’s largest corporations paid no federal income tax of more than 40 billion in profits last year.”
