Gaffney Indians Football the last time they went to state championships (2012)

Kylie McAllister, Editor-in-Chief

Gaffney High School is buzzing with talk of the fact that our football team, The Gaffney Indians, is in the state finals of the AAAAA State Championships.

Last Friday, 11/26 the team played the Spartanburg Vikings at Spartanburg High School and won with a grand score of 56-31. This put our team in the finals for state where we will go against Dutch Fork Silver Fox’s. This Saturday, 12/4, the team will compete at Benedict College against Dutch Fork for the title of 5A State Champions. Dutch Fork is proving to be quite the rival as they “FORKED” the front of GHS and also sent the school a mean letter claiming they will win. GHS will be sure to show them who the real winners are on Saturday!

There will be a community pep rally where the football players, cheerleaders, and the band will be in attendance. It will be at Jolly Park downtown and everyone is encouraged to come out and show their support for our football players before their big day. The pep rally will begin at 6 p.m. and we expect everyone to be there and be loud!

This week we are also having a spirit week to show support for them. The day themes are:

Monday- Tie-Dye

Tuesday- Camo Day

Wednesday- Christmas Sweater

Thursday- Pajama Day

Friday- Black and Gold

Lastly some notes for those who are attending the state game, please remember that there is a clear bag and mask policy to get into the game and tickets are $15. Please only buy tickets from the links posted on Gaffney High School’s Facebook page that is the GoFan app, this is to ensure that your tickets are safe. You cannot leave the stadium and will be required to purchase another ticket to enter back into the game. Gaffney High School is the “home” team so GHS fans in gold and black be sure to sit on the Home side with your fellow fans and cheer loud. Those who will not be in attendance please be sure to watch on the MY TV 40 Network! Parking will additionally be $15 a car and the parking lot will open up to tailgaters 1.5 hours before kickoff, while gates will open 1 hour before kick off for spectators. Please be aware that any additional trailers are $10 and charcoal grills are not allowed.

Additionally, this Wednesday the booster club will be open 6-8 p.m. for fans to purchase Gaffney gear including shirts, cups, and hats. They will also be for sale at the Community Pep Rally. Cash credit or debit is accepted.

We expect everyone to be there and be proud and support our GHS Football players as they take on Dutch Fork! Go Indians!
