It is safe to say that the iCarly reboot, whose release date has yet to be confirmed, will not be happening with a full cast any time soon. While most of the main characters have stated they will be rejoining the show, which ended in 2012, the actress who portrayed Sam confirms she will not be coming back.

Jennette McCurdy is an American producer, director, writer, singer, and former actress. Her most notable roles include Sam Puckett on iCarly and its spin-off series, Sam & Cat. The actress recently came out to say that she is ashamed by her past performances and has officially quit acting.

During a recent episode of her podcast, “Empty Inside,” McCurdy explains how her mother placed her into the acting business when she was six and by ten or eleven, she was the main source of income for her family. Although acting helped drive her into some success, McCurdy claims that she never really wanted to be in the business in the first place and that it was a difficult job to handle, especially with her anxiety. While describing what eventually made her give up acting, she stated, “I ultimately quit after my mom passed away, because with her death kind of died a lot of her ideas for my life, and that was its own journey and a difficult one for sure.” She went on to say that she resented her career in many ways and thinks of it as cheesy and embarrassing. McCurdy is now stepping her way into the writing and directing career and notes that it is going great.
