Holiday Traditions

Abby Phillips, Staff Writer

With Christmas just around the corner, my relatives and I have been talking a lot about all of our holiday family traditions. They are so fun to look forward to and make this time of year so exciting and special to me.

When the classic Christmas movie, Rudolph, come on for the first time each year, we all gather together at my grandparent’s house and watch it while eating chicken stew and drinking hot chocolate. My mom’s side of the family gets together every Christmas Eve to have dinner with each other. While we’re all together, we play fun Christmas games and exchange gifts with one another. And last but not least, my favorite and the most random tradition we have is that we eat Christmas Day breakfast at Waffle House. I know- weird right? We used to cook a nice meal every Christmas morning after opening gifts but everyone would always complain about having to clean up afterwards. Can you blame us though? Who wants to have to help clean up the kitchen on Christmas morning? I certainly didn’t. All I could think about as a kid was going to play with my new toys! I couldn’t be bothered to help clean up. So my family improvised- for the past ten years we have been going to the only restaurant probably open on Christmas, which is Waffle House. It’s pretty great though if you ask me. I mean, who doesn’t want an All-Star Special for breakfast on Christmas?

My family’s holiday traditions are some of my favorite things about Christmas. I hope this made you think about your sweet family holiday traditions too.
