With an online Homecoming ceremony and a socially distanced football game, the 2020 Homecoming Queen was crowned on Friday night during halftime of the football game. Escorted by Josh Knuckles, senior Amareia Chanai’ Dawkins took the crown this year as the new Homecoming Queen.

Dawkins is an senior AVID student and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. After high school, she wants to attend an HBCU to major in Criminal Justice. When asked about the experience, Dawkins says that “It feels amazing to have won! I had the opportunity with four other beautiful young ladies. This court was very diverse, and it was an all around amazing experience.”

A piece of advice she has for future seniors that want to participate in homecoming court is “Don’t think about it. Put yourself out there and just do it. Win or lose, the experience is amazing, and you won’t regret it!”

Despite the differences, Homecoming was successful and the Gaffney High tradition lives on.
