What can Enneagrams tell you about yourself?

Enneagrams have recently become popular, so I decided to examine the basics of enneagrams and try it out myself.

What is The Enneagram you may ask? The Enneagram of Personality is to test one’s personality type. It is a model of the human psyche, which is made up of nine interconnected personality types, each of which is depicted based off what type of person you are.

Type ones are The Reformers , type twos are The Helpers, type threes are The Achievers, type fours are The Individualists, type fives are The Investigators, type six’s are The Loyalists, type sevens are The Enthusiasts, type eights are The Challengers, and finally the number nines The Peacemakers.

Type ones are Reformers. Reformers are the type looking to make things better, they think nothing is ever quite good enough. They are the “perfectionist” of the types.

Type twos are the Helpers. Helpers are exactly what they sound like: they enjoy helping others. Giving to others is what they feel they are living for.

Type three personalities are Achievers. These individuals have to be validated in order to feel worthy. They long for success and to be admired.

The Individualists, type fours, view themselves as being different or unique. They look at their difference from others as both a gift and a curse.

Type five individuals are the Investigators. They fear that they don’t have enough inner strength to face life, so they tend to lean towards the safety and security of the mind where they can mentally prepare for their emergence into the world.

Type sixes are Loyalists. The loyalists feel insecure. The core of the type six’s is fear and anxiety.

Type seven people are Enthusiasts. The enthusiasts are concerned that their lives need to be an exciting adventure. They are all for the future and are constantly convinced that there is something better just around the corner.

Type eight are Challengers. The challengers are unwilling to be controlled. Their intentions are to be masters of their fate. Eights are strong minded.

The final type, the Peacemakers, feel the need to make peace and harmony. The nines tend to have an optimistic approach to life.

According to the official Enneagram website, “Everyone emerges from childhood with one of the nine types dominating their personality, with inborn temperament and other pre-natal factors being the main determinants of our type. This is one area where most of all the major Enneagram authors agree- we are born with a dominant type.” Which type do you think you are? I took the test a couple of weeks ago, and I felt it was really worth my time! My results came back as me being a type three personality. I really enjoyed taking the test. It taught me a lot about myself, and it was really interesting to learn what type of person I was in more depth.
