South Carolina: home of the Gamecocks. The University of South Carolina is located in Columbia, South Carolina. The South Carolina Gamecocks were created in 1892. The South Carolina football team has 115 players from 13 different states, with 49 returning lettermen, including 22 seniors and 16 returning starters.

The head coach of the football team is Will Muschamp, along with some other coaches like Bobby Bentley and Thomas Brown. Some of the star players include Ryan Hilinski, Dakereon Joyner, Bryan Edwards, and Rico Dawdle. Some major team accomplishments contain 1969 ACC, 1995 Carquest Bowl, 2001 Outback Bowl, 2002 Outback Bowl, 2006 Liberty Bowl, 2010 SEC East, 2012 Capital One Bowl, 2013 Outback Bowl, 2014 Capital One Bowl, 2014 Duck Commander Independence Bowl, and 2018 Outback Bowl.

The team is referred to as the Gamecocks in honor of the Revolutionary War hero Thomas Sumter and his accomplishments. The team has participated in 1,065 officially sanctioned games and 16 bowl games.

The South Carolina football stadium is called Williams-Brice stadium. Martha Williams-Brice left most of her estate to the University for expansion and renovations in 1972. The stadium is one of just two stadiums in the FBS named solely after a woman. The stadium was once called Columbia Municipal Stadium and Carolina Stadium.

The first game of the 2019 season was on Saturday, August 31st against North Carolina at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Sadly, the Gamecocks did not come through for that game but their second game of the season, they got a defeat. Their second game was on Saturday, September 7th against Charleston Southern. A big defeat against them with an ending score of 72 (Gamecocks) to 10 (Buccaneers). Based off ESPN’s review of the South Carolina Gamecocks for this year, they will be having a pretty tough year.
