The South Carolina state fair is a 12-day fair which is in Columbia, South Carolina and is operated by the State Agricultural and Mechanical Society of South Carolina. The fair has a ton of fun things to do like fun rides, games, food, and music. The date it is supposed to start is October 12th and end on October 23rd. Some of the foods that they have are corn dogs, cotton candy, soft caramels, funnel cakes, candied apples, cheese on a stick, and strawberry short cake. Some of the rides that thy have are the Century Wheel, Cliffhanger, Crazy Mouse, Flying Jumbos, and Teacups. Another event will be the Agriculture Exhibits. Residents in South Carolina compete for bagging rights and a blue ribbon with their homegrown produce such as apples, home garden wagons, large pumpkins, watermelons, sugar cane, sweet potatoes and more. General admission for ages (0-5) is free, the ages (6-54) is $20 and (55 and older) is $15 and there is no parking fee. In the year 2019 the fair celebrated their 150 years of being around. This year will be the first time in 2 years the state fair has come back to South Carolina since 2019. The state fair was affected by covid heavily and was not able to be open because the safety of people’s health would have been affected. The fair has changed a lot over the decades. It is hard to imagine among the rides, food stands and animal pens that the annual event once boasted a debutante ball, horse racing and even girlie shows. During the state fair in 2019 about 420,000 people visited the fair during the 12-day run. In 1839, the State Agricultural Society was organized to establish a statewide fair, and state fairs were held in Columbia from 1841 to 1845 and again from 1856 to 1861. In 1869, the State Agricultural and Mechanical Society of South Carolina was created to sponsor a state fair. The state fair will be held at 1200 Rosewood Dr, Columbia, SC 29201.
