The biggest fashion event held in New York City is known as the Met Gala. The Met Gala or Met Ball, formally called the Costume Institute Gala or the Costume Institute Benefit, is an annual fundraising gala held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City that started in 1948. The Met Gala started off as a charity event created by Eleanor Lambert. Later, it attracted celebrities and well-known stars in attendance. The Met Gala is a charity event that is considered a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It has traditionally been timed to mark the opening of its annual fashion exhibition. Year after year, the event raises eight-figure sums. When the First Met Gala began in 1948, a dinner ticket started at $50.00. The Met Gala started to receive more social media buzz when Diana Vreeland started working for the Costume Institute. Diana gave the celebrity element which gave the Met Gala more exclusivity, and more press started to cover more. As the years went by the dress code evolved more with the theme. Anna Wintour took the Met Gala one step further. She is known for revamping the Vogue in the 90’s as an event organizer. Anna decided to move the event to springtime so the outfits could be bolder/daring. She also hired more diverse entertainers. Anna hired big celebrities like Kanye West and Rhiana. The met gala became a concert and fashion show.  

This year’s Met Gala took place in New York city. The theme was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” in honor of Karls life and work. It was expected to see a lot of Chanel and Fendi. This year’s 2023 Met Gala host sitting alongside Ms. Anna Wintour was Penelope Cruz, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer, and Dua Lipa. The Met Gala was something to not miss; ticket prices went up to 50,000 dollars and tables starting at 300,000.
