The Fashion of the Met Gala: Outfit Reviews 2022
May 4, 2022
The Met Gala, formally known as the Costume Institute Gala 2022 was held last night on May 2, 2022. The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event held for the benefit of Metropolian Museum of Art’s in New York. The Met Gala is known to be the place where many important celebrities such as singers, actors, film makers, and many other industry paragons gather each year for an elegant red carpet showcase, dinner, and a what Hollywood considers to be “the biggest secret in Hollywood”. While outside of the Met Gala, celebrities make their appearance in their outfits, walk the red carpet, have interviews, and then proceed to go inside. Once the celebrities make their way in, all cell phones are turned off, and no reporters are allowed in; therefore whatever happens inside is held as a secret every year. Since the media only gets an inside look at the red carpet each year, fans rave over their favorite and least favorite Met Gala looks. Each year the hosts of the Met Gala announce a theme to all of the people whom are invited; this years 2022 theme was “The Anthology of Fashion; Gilded Glamour”. There were a little over 600 attendees this year, and these are just a few outfits from celebs; brace yourself because some of these are stunningly beautiful, and some are absolutley appaling.
- Lily Aldridge
Lily Aldridge looks great for the most part. Her dress is beautiful, and the color is very complimenting to her; however it doesn’t fit the theme and she looks like she is going to her senior prom. The jewlery doesnt fit well with the dress and the head piece is ugly.
2. Bad Bunny
The colors look great, but the outfit overall isn’t good; the hair is the worst part though.
3. Giveon
I adore Giveon, but I am so disappointed with his outfit. Considering how great his Coachella outfits were the last two weeks I had such high expectations, but this doesn’t exceed them. He did so well last year!!!!! I can not explain my love for his Met Gala 2021 outfit! But this year….. not good
4. Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade
They look great. Gabrielle’s dress is so beautiful, I am kind of iffy about the flower but all in all she looks amazing. Dwayne looks good too, I feel like white or gold shoes would have been a better color choice than black. However, those are the only critiques I have because they look amazing.
5. Adwoa Aboah
I have absolutley nothing good to say about this.
6. Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz
Don’t get me wrong, they look beautiful. However, they look more as if they are going to prom than the Met Gala.
7. Olivia Rodrigo
She looks amazing, but she also looks like she is going to prom. This fit’s Olivia’s aesthetic so well, but is super basic for the Met Gala and it does not match the theme.
8. Sydney Sweeney
I have no words, Sydney Sweeney is so beautiful, and I think she looks very classy.
9. Cara Delevingne
I simply just do not like this; she looks musty and the outfit is horrendous.
10. Kiki Layne
She looks GORGEOUS. There were a lot of pink looks at this years Met, and this is probably the only one that actually looks good; she looks amazing.
11. Rosalía
I love this so much, she looks so beautiful; she followed theme and rocked it, while also staying true to herself with the glasses kind of giving vibes from her recent album.
12. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II
I like this, and I appreciate how this is the first guy I’ve seen who fits the theme of the Gilded Age. I am not certain how I feel about the design of the jacket but overall the outfit is great.
13. Future
Honestly, I am not a fan of the shorts but at the same time I am not mad about this. Future’s designers did a great job of matching the theme and he pulled it off really well.
14. Patrick Schwarzenegger
This is unique, and I love it. The pale pink/ tanish color with the red look so great together
15. Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian
This is so basic, and honestly such a disgrace to the history of the dress that Kim is wearing. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Kardashians but they all did terrible this year (with the exception of Kris). Shame on Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum for letting such a beautiful and historical dress be ruined. The happy birthday Mr. President dress that Marilyn Monroe wore for JFK in 1962 is such a monumental dress for that time period, and Marilyn should have been the only person to wear the dress. The dress was specifically made just for Marilyn Monroe and she wore it so elegantly, the dress was unbelieveably tight on Kim to the point where she claims to have starved herself for a month to prepare for the Met. She jokes about the starving herself in an interview at the Met; this glorifies eating disorders when young people look up to A list celebrities such as Kim Kardashian. Kim actually ended up losing 16 pounds in order to fit into the dress, but that simply wasn’t enough, she stretched the dress and it still wouldn’t zip all of the way up, which is why she is also wearing Marilyn’s fur coat.
16. Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian
Travis Barker matches the theme, but I don’t like their outfits. I’m not sure if that is a biased opinion because of the disgusting amount of PDA that the two often preform in public settings; or just the fact that their outfits suck, especially Kourtney’s. This was the first Met that Kourtney Kardasian has ever attended, and she would have been better off staying home.
17. Katy Perry
Not exactly theme matching, but she looks stunning.
18. Emily Ratajkowski
I have nothing nice to say about this. She looks stupid, like a bird from the movie “Rio”. She needs to fire her designers ASAP!!!!!
19. Lizzo
Lizzo looks AMAZING!!!!
20. Kylie Jenner
Everything about this is terrible. The mesh shirt looks like it was $5 from Shein, and the rufflles on the skirt just dont match the top. The worst part might just be the snapback ballcap with a wedding veil?? The backstory of why she wore this is actually super sweet, and makes me feel as if I should love it, but I just don’t.
21. Sabrina Carpenter
BEAUTIFUL. It physically pains me to say this but the “blonde girl” out did Olivia Rodrigo #SOUR.
22. Chloe Bailey
Chloe honey, what are you wearing?
23. Eiza González
Personally, I love this; she looks classy and beautiful; like a gilded age wedding.
24. Juan David Borrero and Jasmine Tookes
They look great, they match the theme, and they presented it well, they look so good.
25. Gigi Hadid
at least she won’t get cold? The color looks beautiful on her though, but I hate the jacket; the jumpsuit underneath the jacket is really pretty and look’s great on Gigi, it just doesn’t match the theme. Also the entire outfit resembles Cardi B’s 2019 Met Gala look.
26. Taylor Hill
I like it, she looks so good; everything is so beautiful from her hair, makeup, the boots, the color, the dress itself everything just looks so well together. I love it.
27. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are such a beautiful couple, and thhey look amazing. They match the theme, and they look wonderful. Ryan looks kind of basic, but he still looks good, and pulled off the outfit really well. In my opinion, Blake Lively was the best dressed woman at the Met this year. Her first dress look is beautiful, but it gets better once she surprises everyone with the dress transformation. She looks absolutley amazing, her hair, makeup, both dress looks, jewelry, she did everything and more. Blake and Ryan showed up and showed out.
Blake’s dress transformation, even more beautiful than the pre-transformation dress.
28. Dakota Johnson
Again, I have nothing nice to say about this. It has potential, but I dont like it how it currently is.
29. Hailey Bieber
I adore Hailey Bieber, and her outfit, everything about this is so beautiful. Hailey looks so elegant and so classy, she looks stunning.
30. Madelaine Petsch
Honestly, the colors don’t look great blended together but it all looks great on her skin color. Overall, I think that Madelaine looks so pretty.
31. Lori Harvey
This dress has a lot of potential, it is mostly pretty I just do not think that the open front matches the elegant theme of gilded glamour.
32. Conan Gray
I love Conan Gray, but this outfit is just not good; the colors are great but overall this would look great at Coachella. Speaking of Coachella, this actually resembles his Coachella outfit except in white and silver.
33. Lena Waithe
I love it, I have nothing bad to say.
34. Nicola Coughlan
35. Stormzy
36. Alexa Chung
37. Regé-Jean Page
38. Jacob Elordi
39. Chloe Fineman
40. Jack Harlow
41. Simone Ashley
42. Cardi B
43. Nicki Minaj
44. Megan Thee Stallion
45. Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson
46. Kris Jenner
47. Billie Eilish
48. Winnie Harlow
49. Kodi Smit-McPhee
50. HoYeon Jung
51. Sarah Jessica Parker
52. Evan Mock
53. Emma Stone
54. Phoebe Dynevor
55. Mindy Kaling
56. Shawn Mendes
57. Jordan Roth
58. Kaia Gerber
59. Anna Wintour
60. Emma Chamberlain
