The Russia and Ukraine conflict has been touched on the Indian post before, but since it’s release, new information and events have taken place. First to understand the conflict, why have to understand who’s involved. The main three I will focus on include, Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S.

The conflict started with Vladimir Putin wanting to expand Russia. The push for taking over Ukraine was stronger since they are small, located right beside Russia, and Ukraine has important and needed resources that are independent from Russia.

The Start of Russian Attacks

Russian forces had a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. This was lead by bombing military targets near big cities early Thursday morning. Gunshots, tanks, and bombing was continued during the night into Friday morning. Ukraine has now implemented a curfew for all citizens. This curfew lasts from 3:00pm to 6:00 am. All those venturing out “will be considered members of sabotage groups of the enemy”, authorities warned.

Ukraine Fights Back

Ukraine has not let these acts of war continue without a fight. Ukraine armed forces have shot down 5 Russian planes and helicopters. This has inflicted loss on Russian troops. Ukraine has declared martial law. This has cut diplomatic ties with Russia, offered weapons to any Ukraine citizen, and includes a curfew.

How will America be Affected

Even with Russia and Ukraine being a good distance from the United States, we could be affected in big ways. America gets seven percent of their oil from Russia. We rely heavily on Russia’s oil, and if exports are shut off, our gas prices will raise. As gas raises, everything else follows. This would hurt the U.S economy tremulously.

America’s Relations with Ukraine

America has a over-whelming support for Ukraine despite having shared interests with Russia. Some shared interests include nuclear safety and security, counter-terrorism, and space exploration. America’s support for Ukraine serves as security, democracy, and human rights for Ukraine and its citizens.
America will continue in the support for Ukraine.
