Cafeteria Food

Cafeteria Food

Are the students of Gaffney High receiving decent quality meals from our cafeteria? Some feel the food is pretty good, but others struggle to find anything suitable to eat. In my opinion, it is okay. I always go to the “home cooked” line, and I’d say it’s usually better than everything else, but the “home-cooked” food has its downsides, too. However, not everyone agrees with me that it is usually edible. I interviewed a few students to ask them about their opinions on the food the school provides us with.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but according to a student I interviewed, it’s the greasiest meal of the day. “Sometimes the food can be too greasy. In the mornings, the French toast- oh my gosh, I could just press down a napkin on it, and the whole napkin would be yellow.” Good thing I don’t eat breakfast. We are high school students; greasy foods make most of our faces break out into a pimple parade.

Another student was quoted as saying, “… the fries aren’t cooked all the way, the chicken is very dry, I’ve gotten food poisoning from the chicken tenders….” Is this because of the quality of the food or is it the way the food is prepared at the school?

Those students who enjoy the juice boxes come away from the meal still thirsty due to the tiny size of the boxes. “I think it’s absolutely ridiculous ‘cause even after I’ve drunk the one juice, I am still hungry, and I have to eat the rest of my food with a dry mouth… it’s like I can’t enjoy my food no more.” The institution must realize we are almost adults and that kindergarten-sized juice boxes can hardly quench our thirst.

Who is responsible for deciding which foods are selected to be served? Do they take students’ opinions into consideration? Is this because of a low budget? Do they even taste the food before they serve it? Or, like I said before, is it the way the food is prepared? All these questions, who will answer them for us?
