Super Teacher: Mrs. Jolliff

We have been given the privilige to interview one of Gaffney’s finest, Mrs. Jolliff, as our Teacher Spotlight for December!

Q: What is your favorite color?

A: Tie between pink and blue

Q: What is your favorite movie?

A: A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

Q: How long have you been teaching?

A: I have taught at GHS for 34 years and have overall been teaching for 36 years.

Q: Do you plan on retiring anytime soon?

A: No, as long as they’ll have me and as long as I love what I do, which I do, and as long as I stay healthy, I will continue to teach.

Q: What is your favorite song/ music genre?

A: I’m not really a big music fan, but I listen to whatever anybody is playing. Around this time, though, I listen to Christmas music. I listen to classical and some pop music. Mostly 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s music.

Q: What made you want to teach AVID?

A: About 6 years ago, the principal at that time was talking about an AVID class, what it was about, and the students it was geared to, and at the time, I was thinking about doing something different. I wasn’t ready to leave the classroom but I was still looking for something different. So I did my research and it was exactly what I was looking for. I have loved every minute of it. I love AVID. I am a big AVID fan. I hope to continue teaching AVID for a very long time.

Q: Where did you graduate from?

A: I am an ’82 GHS graduate. I graduated from Winthrop College in ’86. I received my master’s degree from there in ’89.

Q: What is your favorite book?

A: I have lots of favorite books. I have been reading a series called the Seven Sisters. I just finished “The Winter Garden” by Kristin Hannah. I love “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah.

Q: What pets do you have?

A: I have four cats, Pepper, Mrs. Tootington, George, and Sunshine.
