On September 11th, 22 year-old Gabby Petito was reported missing by her family after embarking on a cross country van trip with her boyfriend, 23 year-old Brian Laundrie.

Since June of 2021, Gabby Petito had been traveling in a van with her fiance Brian Laundrie. On August 12th they had a interaction with the police and neither pressed charges but the officers said that they had “engaged in some sort of altercation” and was described as having a physical altercation. The officers suggested they split for the night and they did. A report from a passer-by said “the gentleman was slapping the girl… Then we stopped…They ran up and down the sidewalk. He proceeded to hit her, hopped in the car and they drove off.” After the altercation they continued to travel together.

August 24th was the last time Gabby was seen alive by her mother, Nichole Schmidt, when they FaceTimed and told her that they were leaving Wyoming and will continue on to the Teton range in Wyoming. Schmidt and Petito continue to text from the 25th to the 27th and then on the 30th when Schmidt receives the last message from Gabby saying “No service in Yosemite,” which Schmidt does not believe Gabby sent.

On September 1st, Brian returns to his families home in Florida with the van. There is no indication of where Gabby is located at this time.

After not hearing from Gabby, her family reports her missing and police go to the Laundrie’s North Port residence and they are handed the family’s attorneys informations and leave.

The 17th of September is when the Laundrie family requests police to come to their home where they reveal that they have not seen Brian since the 14th and their attorney tells CNN that his whereabouts are currently unknown.

Remains consistent with Gabby Petito are found in Teton County, Wyoming on September 19th and are confirmed to be her via the coroner on the 21st. One day after the remains are found, Christopher and Roberta Laundrie are escorted out of their home by police after federal agents executed a search warrant.

As of today Wednesday September 23rd, 2021 Brian Laundrie has still not been located and Gabby Petito’s cause of death has yet to be determined.
