Student Council Information

Jaymie Kay Holmes, Staff Writer

Have you ever thought about being on the student council or representing the school?

If so, the best person to talk to about that would be Mrs. Ooley in Room #2520 or shoot her a email at [email protected]! Our student council elections have just opened up and is open to all grade levels and students for class office. So far, there have been multiple people to sign up for the 20 positions including Student Body President, Student Body Vice President, Student Body Secretary, and Student Body Treasurer. Only Juniors and Seniors can Student Body Office and only Seniors can run for Student Body President.

There will be an installation which is partnered with the Beta Club. On that note, with campaigning, you can put up posters, give out pencils and highlighters, and give out stickers. Campaign with your fellow students and be loud! Absentee votes have not been touched on but there is a two day-all day window to vote or they can vote online so students who are out those days or at ISquared can still vote. The Student Council will vote on school officers and students will vote on class officers. For each class, there will be a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer.

In order to be eligible for any position, you have to have a 3.5 GPA. You also have to have good attendance and good behavior. If you have ISS, you may be put on probation. If you have OSS, you can get impeached from you position. Also, when you go to your first meeting, bring ideas that you and your coworkers can use to help out the Gaffney community and school community. If you have any questions, please see Mrs Ooley. Sign-ups end tomorrow, 8/25/21, so go ahead and sign-up today by emailing Mrs. Ooley or visiting her!
