Gamecocks Brace for Huge Series Against Texas Longhorns

This weekend the South Carolina Gamecocks baseball team will play in their first road series of the season, as they will travel to Austin, Texas to play the #19 Texas Longhorns in a crucial three game series. Both the Longhorns and Gamecocks have been hot so far this season, with the Gamecocks being ranked #12 with an undefeated 11-0 record, and Texas continuing to play big brand baseball this season.

There is a lot on the line this weekend as the Gamecocks will look to get their first major wins of the season on the road vs Texas and the Longhorns will look to win a big time series after a colossal failure in the State Farm College Baseball Showdown, where the Longhorns lost all three outings, against #7 Mississippi State, #8 Arkansas, and #6 Ole Miss. Even with five losses on the season the polls have been kind to the Longhorns for their strength of schedule, which has been tough so far. Unlike the Longhorns, the Gamecocks have been disrespected and undervalued in the past three weeks by the polls due to their lack of big wins, as their biggest win was a two-game sweep vs the Clemson Tigers, which looked good then but now two weeks later the Tigers are 5-5 and just suffered an embarrassing loss to USC Upstate on Tuesday. Both the Longhorns and Gamecocks will look to prove themselves as an elite contender for the College Baseball landscape this season.

South Carolina has their first major chance to rocket up the polls this weekend if they sweep or win the series 2-1 against the Longhorns. South Carolina hasn’t faced an opponent like Texas so far this season and will need to be all hands on deck in hopes to bring another sweep back home to Columbia, South Carolina and keep the impressive undefeated streak alive.

The Gamecocks and Longhorns big ticket series will begin Friday night at 7:30 p.m. under the lights in Austin. The game will be broadcasted on the Longhorn Network and the ESPN app.
