On Sunday night, Oprah interviewed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan. During the two-hour broadcast, Meghan Markle discussed her relationship with the royal family and explained hardships she faced while living and serving as a member of the royal family.

In January of 2020, the couple announced that they were taking a step back as members of the royal family, would be moving to North America with their son, Archie, and even start paying their own bills. The couple also recently announced they were going to have a second child, a girl, which they talked about during their conversation with Oprah.

Harry and Meghan discussed at length with Oprah the trials they went through the past few years. Meghan stated that it was extremely difficult to adjust to becoming a member of the royal family, even to the point where she no longer wanted to be alive. Markle went on to say that Archie would not be given a title as prince. Because of royal protocols established by George V in 1917, Archie cannot become a prince until Charles, Harry’s father, is king. In addition to this, she went on to claim that there were racist conversations as to what Archie’s skin color would be while she was pregnant, seeing how Harry is white and Meghan is biracial. They have not revealed who made such statements, but Harry assured the public that it was not either of his grandparents, Queen Elizabeth or Prince Philip.

The Queen finally issued a statement in response to the interview. It read, “The whole family is saddened to learn the extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning… [They] will always be much loved family members.”
