Review of Morgan Wallen’s New Album

Review of Morgan Wallens New Album

Abby Phillips, Staff Writer

As someone who grew up listening to country music, I have become a big admirer of newer artist, singer, and songwriter Morgan Wallen. Born in Sneedville, Tennessee in May of 1993, Wallen first came onto the country scene just a couple of years ago with his hit song, “The Way I Talk.” Other hits since then have included “Up Down,” featuring duo Florida Georgia Line, “Chasin’ You,” and “Heartless,” a collaboration with the artist Diplo. Before that, he actually competed on season six of the popular singing show The Voice in 2014. Wallen was a part of Usher’s team and later on, Adam Levine’s team, which is surprising given that he is now such a large country music star.

He released his first debut EP titled Stand Alone in 2015. In April of 2018, he debuted his first full album titled If I Know Me. Wallen recently released a new double album titled Dangerous, which has 30 tracks on it, including hit songs like “Somebody’s Problem,” “7 Summers,” “More Than My Hometown,” and “Cover Me Up.” The album has been out for nearly a month now, with its release date having been January 8. After listening to the album quite a few times already, I can conclude that although it has a few upbeat songs, the overall theme is surprisingly saddening. It is filled with many somber heartbreak songs, though they are great songs nonetheless. My personal favorites on it so far are “More Surprised Than Me,” “Silverado for Sale,” and “Outlaw,” which features Ben Burgess. Even after just releasing a full double album, Wallen dropped two more songs just this past weekend titled “Bandaid On A Bullet Hole” and “This Side of a Dust Cloud.”

I know country music is not the most popular genre, but I highly recommend giving this album a listen. It has a song for everyone.
