40 years ago, Jimmy Carter was the president. A gallon of gas cost $1.19. The average home cost $47,200. Nike Air force basketball shoes were popular, and so were jean jackets! Pac-man and Space Invaders were some of the popular games. Some popular toys included, My Little Pony, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, and talking Alf. Queen came out with “Another one Bites the Dust.” Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back was one of the most popular movies of the time.

The GHS Homecoming Queen was Malinda Dewberry. the Golf Team finished third in the region tournament. The track team, baseball, tennis team also had many wins. Fast-pitch softball was added to the sport curriculum, and the team worked hard to take home the Region II AAAA softball championship. The GHS Volleyball team also went to a region tournament and placed 5th. The cheerleaders received two superior ribbons, and Edith Ann Fowler was selected as NCA All-American Cheerleader.
