Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is a book, and now a successful movie, written by the American
author, Ransom Riggs. This book follows teenage Jacob Portman, played by Asa Butterfield, through his journey through different time frames, and his chances of love with Emma Bloom, the red head with fire at her fingertips. Along with Emma, Jacob joins in with Olive, a girl lighter than air, Millard, the invisible boy, Bronwyn, an extremely strong girl, Hugh, a boy with bees in his stomach, Fiona, a controller of nature, Horace, the boy that dreams themiss-p future, and Enoch, the boy that can make dead things live, and unmovable objects come to life. These nine children, from 1940, run from time loop to time loop trying to save their headmistress, Miss Peregrine, from their worst enemy, the Wights and hollowgasts.

The movie, directed by Tim Burton, released September 30, 2016. Unlike most movies that are based off of books, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children almost lines up perfectly with the book. The main difference between the two is a switch in Emma’s and Olive’s peculiarities. In the book, Emma, played by Ella Purnell, is said to have fire at her fingertips, and bright red hair to match. However, in the movie, Emma has pale blonde hair, and is lighter than air. The book describes Olive, played by Lauren McCrostie, as a young girl with pale blonde hair that is lighter than air. In the movie, Olive is an older girl with bright red hair and fire in the palm of her hand. Burton still has not released the reason for the change, but fans have inferred that the major change was because of the recent movie, The Hunger Games, featuring a leading female as a girl on fire. Despite this change, fans have flocked to the theaters making the movie fly up to the top of the charts, while making $28,500,000 in the first week.
