Netflix’s Newest Thriller Series: Ratched
September 18, 2020
Ryan Murphy, creator of shows such as American Horror Story, Glee, American Crime Story, and Scream Queens has done it again with his new Netflix original Ratched.
Ratched, an eight episode thriller, follows Mildred Ratched, an adaptation of the antagonist from the 1962 novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and also the 1975 film version.
Sarah Paulson takes on yet another dark and twisted role in her portrayal of the sinister nurse.
Ratched is now streaming on Netflix.
From the looks of Ryan Murphy’s other works, you would know that he is quite accustomed to period pieces, and he did not disappoint with this one. The series is set in 1947 California and has all the rather obscure components you would think to find in a 1940s mental institution, including misdiagnoses and lobotomies.
Nurse Mildred Ratched goes to Lucia Mental Hospital for a job interview that she wasn’t offered. When turned away she quickly finds a way to get the job, already demonstrating the lengths she is willing to go to get what she wants.
She immediately begins causing conflict within the hospital, whether it be poisoning or manipulating patients. However, when Edmund Tolleson (Finn Wittrock), an infamous killer, is admitted, and that’s when the true chaos begins.
This show is quite unpredictable. There is never a dull moment. If you’re a fan of thrillers, I definitely recommend this series.
Ratched is now streaming on Netflix.
