Saturday saw South Carolina’s Democratic primary, but Tuesday, March 3rd is the biggest day of the primary election cycle so far: Super Tuesday. 14 states will hold their primary elections on Tuesday. A primary is a day of state-wide voting where the residents of the state vote on who they want to put in the general election. The Democratic candidate with the most delegates by the time of the Democratic Convention in July will face President Donald Trump in the general election in the fall.

Known as “Super Tuesday,” today is the biggest day of the democratic primary. California, Texas, North Carolina, Virginia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Colorado, Tennessee, Alabama, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Utah, Maine, and Vermont will all cast ballots in primaries today. With a grand total of 1,357 delegates in this race, it is important to make a impact on these days leading up. California is the most important because they have a grand total of 415 delegates at stake.

While these primaries are very important, the South Carolina primary caused some deciding factors. After Biden’s great win and the results of the SC primary, several candidates made the decision to drop out of the race. Tom Steyer dropped out Sunday afternoon, while Mayor Pete Buttigieg dropped out after scoring low in the primary.  Amy Klobuchar also suspended her campaign after a disappointing finish in South Carolina. After these drop-outs, there are 5 candidates left in the race. Joe Biden, Michael Bloomberg, Tulsi Gabbard, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren.
Major decisions may be made while roughly 28% of the total delegates are voting.
