Las Vegas Democratic Debate
February 24, 2020
On February 20th the six Democratic candidates debated in Las Vegas. Democratic candidate Mike Bloomberg was the target of the gaslight.
Bloomberg was questioned over his derogatory comments about women. Elizabeth Warren started it off by saying “I’d like to talk about who we’re running against — a billionaire who calls women ‘fat broads’ and ‘horse-faced’ … No, I’m not talking about Donald Trump. I’m talking about Michael Bloomberg.”
Allegations of sexist comments from Bloomberg have a long history. According to CNN, many sexual assault accusations and cases have flown around Bloomberg since the 90’s.
While they targeted these comments and accusations, they also mentioned his immense wealth. Pete Buttigieg said that Bloomberg “wants to buy this party off.”
While we have seen candidate Elizabeth Warren hushed in the past, Thursday’s debate saw her setting the standard for the other candidates. She spoke more than any other candidate and she showed out. Her performance was aggressive and unforgettable. She notably spoke on her “medicare for all” and healthcare. She sawed through Buttigieg’s healthcare plans, calling it “not a plan; it’s a PowerPoint.” Warren’s debate performance allowed her to raise $1 million dollars during the debate, and $2.8 million throughout the day. This debate might have been Mrs. Warren’s comeback.
Former front-runner candidate Joe Biden was pretty much ignored. It was obvious the candidates weren’t worried about Biden, as the majority of the Democratic field tore into Bloomberg.
This debate was one of the most intense and fiery yet, but we can only expect more heat on Feb. 25th in Columbia, SC.
