Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing is a fairly popular game. Eight games have been released, the oldest in 2001 and most recently in 2020. The game is available for Nintendo 64, GameCube/Wii, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, and even a version for mobile phones. The newest version of Animal Crossing will work with the Nintendo Switch.

Animal Crossing is a game where your character is set in a town full of animals. You can build relationships, talk to, trade, etc. with the animals. There are different things you can do, like go fishing, bug catching, digging up fossils, and going shopping.

In the “New Leaf” version of the game, you come into a town, and the animals mistake you as the new mayor, so you’re essentially forced to become their mayor. You take care of the town by building new things in town that the animals suggest to you, pick all the weeds, plant flowers, upgrade shops, take care of pesky villagers, etc.

In “New Horizons,” you and all of the villagers are given a chance to go to a deserted island. On this island, you have to pretty much start from scratch. In the previous games, you could buy items from the shops, like a shovel, a net, a fishing rod, and clothes. In “New Horizons,” you can craft this kind of stuff. There will still be the option of buying items, but now you also have the choice of crafting.

There will be more ways your character and the animal villagers can dress as well. For the villagers, they used to only wear tank tops with no sleeves at all. In “New Horizons,” the villagers can wear short sleeves and long sleeves. With sheep villagers, they only wear scarves, but in “New Horizons” they can wear a shirt too. As for the characters, there are new patterns for tops, bottoms, and shoes as well as new headgear and accessories.

Nintendo will be releasing this game on March 20, 2020. You can pre-order one now for $60. Nintendo also just released a new Switch. Instead of the regular Switch with bright red and blue controllers and a black screen, the controllers are a very pale green and blue with a black screen. On the back of the screen, there is a pattern of different trees, buildings, and different items.
