A New Stage for Drama
November 5, 2019
The Drama Department at Gaffney High has always had much to offer with their talent in dramatic theater displayed in the plays and musicals. As we’ve begun the new year, new and exciting additions were introduced to our Drama Department. We welcome Mrs. Traci Dill, the new Drama teacher, and her plans to make Gaffney High shine with a dramatic flair.
New additions to the Drama Department include a Talent Club and Improvisation Team which include 2 shows per semester. For the first time as a group, both the Advanced Drama class and Drama Club will attend two state level competitions this year. In late November, Advanced Drama will go to their first competition where they will perform, “Chester, Who Painted the World Purple.”
The musical this year will also be different from the previous. Instead of auditions being open to only Gaffney High school students, this will be a district-wide musical which will include grades 4-12. This is a great opportunity for younger students to learn about drama and explore new activities. Dates for the auditions will be in early December.
Mrs. Dill has been working hard to spread the art of theater throughout the school this year. With many additions to date, she’s not done yet. Mrs. Dill has bright plans for the future. She stated,” I want us to join an honor society for theater arts called “International Thespian Society”. This organization allows our students to earn points for the work they do in the performing arts and enables them to be eligible for graduation honors, scholarships, and a variety of theater opportunities.” This will be great exposure to those who want to pursue a career in this field and earn rewards for their work. Fundraisers will be held in the future to fund the cost of admission.
Overall, much is to come this year such as new events that give students opportunities to stand out, a wider audience, and a fun time. Flyers of recent events will be posted around the school to advertise the events and fundraisers.
