The Totally Bangin’ Class of 1998

The year is 1998, it’s senior year, and your boyfriend just broke up with you. You sit in your room, ugly crying to Aerosmith’s hit song “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” in your new Tommy Hilfiger sweater your mom picked you up from the mall. Tomorrow, you have a math test, and the teen angst is really kicking in. Don’t worry, though, your spirits will be well lifted at the next football game, when Gaffney wins by a twenty point landslide against Kings Mountain, beginning an extremely successful football season in which Gaffney brings home the win eight times.

Senior year of 1998 was full of many fond memories: wins, losses, friendship and jokes. An excellent year for football, and basketball, but a tumultuous year for wrestling. The beautiful homecoming queen was the Ms. Brandi Sarratt, and her court consisted of Leurica Dawkins, Eboni Littlejohn, Michelle Herman, and Susan Luker. The winner of the Miss Cherokeean pageant was Ms. Stephanie Baines. The student body president was the ever studious Denise Poole.

It was an interesting year for one of the last Mr. GHS pageants, with Ernesto Zapata belting out his own rendition of “La, La Bamba!” for the talent portion. One of the most popular hairstyles the hella fashionable fringe bangs, and everyone was seen repping their favorite baggy sweatshirts, the edgier kids adding a tattoo choker to match. It was definitely a year for fashion, with trends we see returning today.

1998 was an amazing year for the senior class; may those who have left us memories live on in our hearts and at GHS.
