Veterans Day

Veterans Day

Destiny Dominguez, Staff Writer

Students of Kristie Camp’s English class participated and helped with Gaffney’s annual Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 11. Students in Camp’s classes spent several weeks working on promoting the parade throughout the community as a project-based learning endeavor (PBL) to increase attendance and participation in the parade and the program after the parade. Students designed posters and other sorts of advertisements while learning what type of language to use in order to capture the attention of every person possible. Students had nothing but good things to say. Madison Ziegelheafer, an eleventh grader said “The PBL was a fun experience for me; it made me appreciate veterans, and made me feel like I was a part of something.” Jeremy Ford, another eleventh grader said, “The PBL was something that taught me things that I would not have known ever if I had not participated in it; now I appreciate veterans much more.”

A few of the students recognized were Hunter Bullock, Bailey Duncan, Latoya Jefferies, and Kaitlyn Wilkins; they were asked to read their essays they had written in Mrs. Camp’s. They were selected to read their essays at the Veterans Day program that followed for the parade.
