The Houston Astros have won their first World Series after a seven game battle with the Los Angeles Dodgers.  This year’s World Series was the first since 1970 where the two best teams in baseball have squared off on the diamond for the title. It was also the second consecutive World Series that went to seven games. The games began in Los Angeles with a Dodgers 3-1 home victory. From there Houston turned the series around despite the the Dodgers’ game 4 victory in Houston and the game 6 victory at Chavez Revine. The title brings some disaster relief to Houston, as fans gathered in Minute Maid Park to watch their Astros “Earn History.” Houston dominated  game seven with George Springer and Alex Bregman scoring. The hot hitting of the Astros ended in the top of the second with Brian McCann, Marwin González, and Springer. The Dodgers were not able to recover even with Joc Pederson’s run. George Springer was awarded the MVP title, hitting 11 for 29 (.379), hitting five home runs with seven RBIs. Springer told ESPN, “This is a dream come true and an honor,” Springer said. “But it’s about the Houston Astros tonight, our city, our fans. That patch on our chests really does mean something. We’re coming home champions.” Springer hit a record tying homer off the 3-2 pitch of Yu Darvish. Springer’s record matches those of Reggie Jackson and Chase Utley. The home runs of Springer either tied the game or gave his Astros the lead.
