One of the worst kept secrets in the automotive industry is Toyota’s desire to bring back the Supra. Toyota and BMW have made a deal to create a new car platform that both companies can use. Hopefully, this means that the new car will have the luxury and performance of a BMW, and the reliability of a Toyota.

The Toyota Supra may be under Toyota’s new Gazoo Racing brand, according to The Drive, and may not share the exact name as the late 90s legend. The Supra has been on a 15 year hiatus, even after becoming a movie star because of the original Fast & Furious movie. The Supra met its end when Toyota ceased worldwide production in 2002 due to a changing market and looming oil shortages. This is surprising since the Supra was a very popular car.

The popularity of the last generation Supra can be attributed to how easy it is to modify the engine, the 2JZ. The engine was easily able to make 800+ horsepower if the mechanic knew what they were doing, and there is a plethora of Supras making this much power on YouTube.

This has also brought new life to many older Supras that nostalgic tuners and car enthusiasts brought back from the edge. This has also caused Supras to skyrocket in value as supply continues to decrease, and demand continues to grow. Paul Walker’s Supra sold for $185,000 according to Digital Trends, so there is some serious investment value in these cars.

The new Supra needs to live up to its predecessor and bring new life into the car community. With the power of Toyota and BMW together, the new Supra should not disappoint.
