Promposals Take Over GHS

Promposals Take Over GHS

For many juniors and seniors in high schools across the United States, spring is one of the best times of the year. Spring is full of excitement for Seniors as they get ready to take their final final exams and get ready to hurry off to the beach for senior week, and yes, at the end of summer, college. Spring is also an exciting time for Juniors as they get to a close of one of their hardest years in school and get to take on the year they’ve been waiting for – their senior year. However, before you take on all of this, you must first face every girl’s favorite – prom. Prom – a girl’s, “OMG it’s here!” and a guy’s, “Mom, do I really have to go?” Whether you hate it or love it, it’s almost here.

For girls, prom means dress shopping. It means searching and searching for the perfect dress just to have your perfect Cinderella moment. Prom means going from mall to mall just to find the perfect pair of heels and the perfect jewelry to complete and tie together your dress. Prom means hair appointments. It means finding the perfect hairdresser to make your perfect hairstyle. Prom even means going to your hairdresser days before your appointment just so you can practice and find what your perfect hairstyle is. Prom means makeup appointments. It means searching through Pinterest, Instagram, and Twitter for the perfect makeup style. Prom means searching Ulta up and down just to find the perfect shade of lipstick. Prom means booking your makeup appointment months before prom just to make sure your homegirl can come through for you, and I mean really, doesn’t she always? As you can see, prom isn’t just another “dress-up day.” Due to movies and what society hikes up prom to be, prom, to many girls, is what they’ve waited for since they were little girls. Oh, and did I forget to mention, at some point between all this constant looking and searching, you’re also searching for the perfect date.

Here at GHS, a new concept of prom has taken over. Promposals – the act of one asking another publicly to prom in a unique way – has truly taken over. What used to be asking face-to-face or over the phone, “Hey, do you wanna go to prom with me?” has now turned into something that has taken high schools and social media by storm. You can’t go a day without scrolling through Twitter or Instagram without seeing a new Promposal. Whether the idea have to do with animals, foods, makeup, popular clothing stores, clever puns, or sports, new ideas pop up every day.

Although Promposals started as an ideal way for a guy to ask a girl to prom, it’s recently become a clever, cute idea for girls to take their best friends to prom. Even if you don’t have that special someone in your life that you want to take on prom with, it doesn’t mean that you can’t take on prom with your best friend. Prom doesn’t just have to be for a guy and a girl. It can be an awesome excuse to get glammed out, dress up like Cinderella, and have an awesome GNO with all your girlfriends. I mean really, who needs guys anyways?

Promposals are a great way to take on something that can be extremely intimidating. Whether it’s asking a girl you’ve had a crush on forever, asking your girlfriend, or even asking your best friend, Promposals are a great way to “pop the question.” However, with prom coming up, April 22nd, (less than a month away!!!) don’t worry! You still have time to ask, and if you can’t think of any ideas, maybe these pictures of the students of GHS’s Promposals will strike the perfect idea in your mind! Good luck, and Happy Promposing!!!
