Bradley Childers scored a team-high 17 points, Mystikal Tate and Tay Kershaw added 14 more respectively, and the Gaffney Indians gained sole possession of Region 3-5A after their 79-73 double overtime thriller at the Burial Ground. With the win, the Indians improve to 13-4 overall and 4-0 inside region play. Dorman, who entered the game ranked No. 1 in the state, dropped to 13-5 and 3-1 in the region.

“It was a heck of win for us,” said Gaffney head coach Mark Huff. “I’m so proud of our kids and happy for them because they have put in a lot of work.”

Dorman held the 56-54 advantage before Bradley Childers drove the lane, drilled an 11-foot pull up jumper to knot the game at 56-56, and force overtime. The Cavaliers jumped out to a 63-60 lead but Mytikal Tate sank the catch and shoot three-pointer to tie the game with 38 seconds remaining in overtime.

“I’ve got all the confidence in the world in Mystikal,” said Huff. “He takes shots in practice from the top of the key everyday. I knew when he shot it that it was in.”

Dorman was unable to score on the other end, forcing double overtime. Tay Kershaw sparked the Indians early in the second extra period with two straight buckets and Andrew Morris nailed a three-pointer from the corner to push the Gaffney lead to 70-63. LaDarius Foster hit a free throw to give the Tribe their biggest lead of the night, 71-63.

The Cavaliers were lead by Tyson McClain who scored a game-high 19 points. Tae Cannon scored 13 points as Bryson Woodruff and Zach Butler combined for 22.

Now with the region lead, Gaffney controls its own destiny. The Indians return to Region 3-5A play next Tuesday, traveling to Byrnes.
