New Year, New Music
January 23, 2017
January has been very good to us in the music world, and the month isn’t even over yet. We’ve gotten tons of hits from artists such as The Chainsmokers, J. Cole, and The xx. Along with new music, many artists are gearing up to go on tour this year.
On January 13, The xx released their album, I See You. This is the first album from the band in 5 years. The xx also announced the I See You tour, which sets off in February in Europe. Staying along with the trend, artist Kehlani has released two singles this month and has a tour which starts in February. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are going all across North America in a tour lasting through May, which features a tour date in Columbia, on April 19. Shawn Mendes is going on a highly anticipated world tour, and plans on coming to North America this summer.
Along with all of the tours, January has been a very successful month for the singles. The Chainsmokers blew up the charts last year with hits such as, “Don’t Let Me Down” and “Closer.” They’ve started out the year strong with “Paris,” which quickly gained major popularity. The star of “Closer,” Halsey, released her single “Not Afraid Anymore” from the upcoming movie “Fifty Shades Darker” on the 13th of this month. EDM artists Diplo and Tiësto both released exciting singles this month.
Through all the tours, singles, and announcements, there is one artist no one can stop talking about. After going off the grid for a year, Ed Sheeran is back, and he hasn’t disappointed. On the first Friday of January, Sheeran released two singles, “Shape of You” and “Castle on the Hill.” He has also announced the date of his new album, which debuts on March 3rd. We can’t wait to hear the newest album from Ed Sheeran, and we can’t wait to hear all that January has in store for us.
